How To Bring Face Unlock Feature On Xiaomi Redmi 5/5 Plus

The face unlock feature is now getting more popular on new Android smartphones, not just flagships; this feature is now available on even budget smartphones. However, with the older mid-range smartphones released last year, the face unlock feature was not still available. But that does not mean, you cannot bring this interesting feature on your phone. If you are using a Redmi 5 or Redmi 5 Plus device, then you can get the face unlock on your phone. Keep reading this post to do that.

Before proceeding, you need to install TWRP recovery and root your phone first. Follow the below steps to do it:

1.      First, download the required files from this link

·        Xiaomi USB Driver

·        Xiaomi Unlock Bootloader  ( if your device has not been unlocked bootloader)

·        Xiaomi TWRP Recovery

REDMI 5 (rosy):

REDMI 5 PLUS (vince):

·        SuperSU Zip

·        Xiaomi Fast-boot tool (adb)

2.      Extract Xiaomi Fast-boot tool and then enable USB Debugging option in Settings> Additional > Developer Options

3.      Copy SuperSU into the internal storage

4.      Move the compatible TWRP file of your phone to the extracted Xiaomi Fast-boot folder

5.      Now, power your phone off and plug your phone into the computer.

6.      Press & hold the Power + Home buttons so that your phone boots into the Fastboot mode

7.      In Xiaomi Fast-boot folder, right-click Shift + Open Window Command Prompt here

8.      Now, continuously the following commands

fastboot devices and hit Enter

9.      Now, continue to enter the following command to flash TWRP recovery:

REDMI 5: fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.1-0-rosy.img
REDMI 5 PLUS: fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.2.1-0-vince.img

1  Once your phone successfully flash TWRP recovery, you enter this command to directly boot into TWRP recovery

fastboot boot twrp-3.2.1-0-rosy.img (REDMI 5)

fastboot boot twrp-3.2.1-0-vince.img (REDMI 5 PLUS)

1  From here, flash SuperSU. Remember to wipe cache and dalvik

1  Once done, reboot your phone

How To Install Face Unlock On Xioami Redmi 5/5 Plus

You should back up your data first in case something goes wrong. Also, make your phone is running on Miui 9 version based on Android 7 Nougat.

·        Download patch for your Android version

·        Copy the downloaded file into the internal storage of your device

·        Continue to boot your phone into TWRP recovery by pressing and holding Power + Vol Up buttons.

·        Tap on Install and flash the face unlock file.

·        Remember not to make any wipe such as data or dalvik cahce.

·        Once done, simply reboot your phone and enjoy your result.
